Current News Around the Village

July 2016

Our third medical outreach is being planned as we type. During this outreach, we will be following up on those who have gone for surgery, doing dental checks (in anticipation of our August dental camp), and general treatment like usual. As always, we give great thanks to our donors and to the Most High for all blessings that enable us to do this work.

Our village has been hit by serious flooding. We are requesting donations to fortify three houses of our beneficiaries who are in direct risk of living in unsafe homes. Their rooves are leaking and they sleep on the floor, so if the water keeps rising, they will soon be sleeping in mud!

It is a great pleasure to announce the donation of two blood glucose testing kits and several tubes of ointment and creams from a generous anonymous donor. Thank you! (Eyalama noi noi!)

March 20 Update

Here are some photos from the Hepatitis Sensitiation Camp. We had a great turn-out. Dr. Moses, the county health officer, was able to answer many of the concerns people had, and taught them ways to keep themselves protected during this time of outbreak.

March 20, 2016

Today at 4pm in Kalengo village primary school there will be a free Hepatitis sensitization camp.
Please spread the news.
Information in risk factors, signs, modes of infection, prevention, testing, and immunization will be available.
The county health officer will be present to answer all questions.
A demonstration of how to build a hands free washing station will also be given.

March 12, 2016

We have just been informed of a Hepatitis B and E outbreak in our village. Already two people have died. We are working to find out if they are related to any of our beneficiaries. There are two other confirmed cases and other suspected cases.
These outbreaks spread rapidly through communities like ours where one water source is often shared by hundreds of people.
Helping Hands would like to help by vaccinating as many teachers in the immediate schools of the outbreak area as possible. This is because teachers mix with high numbers of people on a daily basis and could, if infected, spread it to such a large number of people. They are also a manageable and reachable community demographic.
Please consider making a donation today.
We will keep you updated through out the epidemic on this page.
Following will be a list of preventative measures to be taken and ensure your personal protection.
