Craft School

During our last board meeting, we came up with the idea of making a craft school to train some of the more Agile elders and provide them with an income generating activity. It also gives them a chance to socialize and helps provide the community something to see the elders doing, which in turn reopens their claim to worth.

 

Our last board meeting resulted in visiting the families we are assisting. We realized that the more agile adults in each family could greatly benefit from learning or selling a craft. After evaluating the talents that we as board members have, we learned that two of us have knowledge of tailoring and one has knowledge of paper bead and jewelery making.

From each of the families, we select the best candidates who we feel are stable enough to manage a sewing machine and create beautiful and functional craft work. The pieces which they make will be marketed abroad, as well as in local tourist hot spots, and all proceeds will go towards housing improvement fees and medical care of the program beneficaries.
